35% of your energy loss comes through your exterior walls, insulating your walls is a key factor to an energy efficient homeis a key factor to an energy efficient home
Dense Pack, or Drill and Fill, refers to a method of insulating the exterior walls or interior ceiling of a home by blowing loose fiberglass insulation into the wall or ceiling cavities at high pressure. Though it is necessary to drill holes into every wall cavity in order to fill the cavities, dense pack is by far the least invasive and lowest cost method for installing insulation into the walls of an existing home. This process can also be applied for homes without drywall using a net & fill technique.
In most homes, the garage is an unconditioned, unheated space. For that reason, the rooms above it need to be properly insulated and air sealed. In other words, the rooms need to be completely isolated from the garage.
In most cases, the floor above the garage was formerly insulated with fiberglass batts. Fiberglass bat is a poor choice for insulating this type of cavity because it only works when it is fluff, dry and evenly spread, filling the cavity completely. Yet, as it happened in this case and most of the time, installers leave huge gaps above, below and around the bats which allow the air to flow through.
According to laws of physics, heat tends to move from warm to cold. In most homes, the rooms above the garage are constantly losing heat from all the gaps in the insulation blanket. To solve this problem, we at NC Foam Pros will dense-pack fiberglass insulation between the garage ceiling and floor. We access the bays through holes drilled on the external walls and inject dense-pack fiberglass in the cavities with especially powerful equipment.
Dense-packed fiberglass has a much higher R-Value than cellulose insulation and if properly applied, it also stops the airflow. Most homeowners are able to feel the difference almost immediately. The rooms above the garage wouldn’t be just warmer and more comfortable—they will be quieter too. The fiberglass muffled the sounds of the busy street he lives in.
Loose-fill or Blown-in insulation is an efficient, high-quality option for homeowners.
When looking for a cost-effective, energy saving option for your home, take some time to consider blown-in insulation as the material to use. It is widely available, quick to install and can even be hypoallergenic for those who deal with bothersome allergies.
A properly insulated attic will reduce the amount of hot/cold temperatures from traveling into your heated or cooled living space
Equip your crawlspace with R19 or R30 fiberglass to prevent cold floors within your home.
Does your home feel drafty in the winter? Do you experience uneven temperatures between rooms or walking down hallways? Is your heating and cooling equipment running constantly even when you don't think it should be? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you might need to seal the leaks and increase the amount of insulation in your attic. Attic insulation and attic air sealing are proven to provide lifelong energy savings and improve the quality of the air you breathe every day.
